Man Who Robbed People's United Bank Faces Life in Prison If Convicted

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. -

A man accused of robbing a Vermont People's United Bank in Hartford, Vt. is being held without bail.

50-year-old John Fenley was arrested the day after the robbery.

Police say he got away with more than $6,000 after claiming he had a gun.

This isn't Fenley's first brush with the  law, he as a rap sheet a mile long including drug and forgery convictions.

"The evidence of guilt in this case is great first and foremost because Mr. Fenley freely confessed to his robbery," David Cahill,Windsor County Prosecutor, said.

He faces life in prison because of his prior felony convictions.

Police say he didn't act alone. 46-year-old Joseph Petracca, of Rhode Island, was arrested over the weekend in connection with the robbery.
