Waterbury Winterfest Begins

Posted: Updated:
WATERBURY, Vt. -

The Waterbury Winterfest kicked off Friday with a middle and high school Nordic ski race.

Today's events were at Dac Rowe Field and Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott got the race started with the sound of a starting gun.

There's still a lot more this weekend. Sunday features skating and snow shoe events and plenty of food from area vendors.

Harwood Union High's Nordic coach is pleased by how all the hard work pays off.

"Kids are excited about skiing in front of their parents and friends and under the lights. And a lot of people went through some hard work to make this happen. It's been in planning for about a month. The Waterbury Rec committee and many others have been involved," Nordic coach John Kerrigan said.

Here's a complete look at the schedule of events this weekend.
