Peter Karp and team welcomed 115 guests to their annual event, held this year at the Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Francisco (http://www.ggyc.com/facilities/). Overlooking San Francisco Bay, the evening began with a cocktail reception and followed with guest speakers, a three course dinner, and music to accompany the soiree provided by Philip Claypool.
Hugh Thacher, President of the San Francisco Wine Exchange, shared his thoughts with guests about wine pairings for the courses throughout the evening. He detailed each wine’s origin, background and why it was selected. Some of the wines mentioned include: Vina Ventisquero Reserva and Beronia Crianza 2008, which were served during hors d’oeuvres, David Bruce Russian River and Pinot Noir 2010 with the main course and Gonzalez Byass Solera 1847 (sherry) with dessert.
Tom Ehman, Vice Commodore, Golden Gate Yacht Club and Executive Director, America’s Cup Properties, Inc., a consummate veteran of international yachting shared his passion for yacht racing. His talk covered the history of the America’s Cup and nuances of yacht racing. Mr. Ehman highlighted the current and future America’s Cup series events and their importance to San Francisco and the Bay Area.
