BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Former Vermont State Police Sgt. James Deeghan is pleading guilty to two felony charges of false claims.

FOX44 and ABC22 reporter Nick Natario says Judge Brian Grearson accepted Deeghan's plea deal which gives him 2 years in prison and having to pay back Vermont more than $200,000. He would also have to complete 500 community service hours.

Deeghan told the Judge in court Monday morning that he put hours on his time card that he didn't work.

Chittenden County State's Attorney, TJ Donovan, says the money will come from Deeghan's pension and the sentence will help restore the public trust.

Last year, the 49-year-old of Colchester was paid about $136,000, about $56,000 more than his base pay. Prosecutors say he was charged after detectives reviewed time sheets for two pay periods in June.
