Yoga Comes to Burlington International Airport

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

We're all used to the normal sights and sounds of an airport.

From the check-in, to the take-off, but now there's a new one at the Burlington International Airport.

Yoga is now a part of the facility's features.

An added bonus for some.

"You can come into this beautiful space and light and just move, do a little yoga and feel better and get on with your journey."

"I was really excited," said Lily-Beth Norton.

A great feeling Norton says because she knows flying isn't always the most relaxing thing to do.

"I know that before I go on a flight I always feel this rush of nervous energy," said Norton.

To kick-off the new space, a free yoga class was offered Saturday.

"Palms come together, lower thumbs to heart center," said the instructor.

The large group worked outside the new yoga studio because they couldn't fit inside.

In the room there's pillows, mats and if you've never done the exercises before, instructions.

It won't cost a penny to use and the airport didn't spend one to make it because it was created by donations.

Even though this small airport doesn't have many layovers leaders say this is in demand.

"We solicited a couple of people, we started talking to customers and it was something that we very much needed and wanted," said airport director Gene Richards.

Now if you're stuck, or stressed, you have a way to relax before you head out.

The yoga studio isn't just open for passengers, airport employees or anyone else is welcome to use the space.

Burlington International leaders say this is the third airport across the country to feature one of these rooms.
