MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Thursday night ABC22/FOX44 told you about Governor Peter Shumlin's education proposals.
Friday, we wanted to find out how much some of them would cost.
One of his idea's is called the, "Vermont Strong Scholar Program."
It pays Vermonters final year of tuition if they stay in state with a degree in the stem field.
That's science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Currently UVM has 1,100 of those students.
That means, if they all stayed the state would pay nearly $15-million dollars.
"I'm certainly not going to dismiss his proposals, I think they're going in the right direction, absolutely. We need to figure out whether we can do them," said State Rep. Janet Ancel.
In addition to a college buy back, Shumlin also wants to make early childhood care affordable, offer more free lunch and create student learning plans.
He has yet to say where the money for those will come from.
