Report: NY Sells More Black Market Cigarettes Than Any Other State

ALBANY, N.Y. -

New York sells more black market cigarettes than any other state. That's according to a report by the Tax Foundation.

More than half of cigarettes sold in New York, that's 60.9% are smuggled in. That cheats the state out of more than a billion dollars in tax revenue and 6,700 jobs.

New York has higher tobacco taxes than any other state, at $4.35 per pack.

According to the report Vermont and New Hampshire both had high rates of people smuggling cigarettes out of the state to other states.
