BENNINGTON, Vt. -
(AP) - A 24-year-old Vermont man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sexual contact with a 4-year-old girl.
Stephen Martin of Pownal was sentenced in Bennington criminal court Friday to 10 years for felony cruelty to a child younger than 10. He was sentenced to an additional year for obstruction of justice for contacting a woman while in prison in an attempt to influence her testimony.
Pownal was arrested after a woman reported she saw Martin having sexual contact with the girl. Martin pleaded guilty in October.
The Rutland Herald reported that a prosecutor told the judge Friday that Martin had shown "absolutely no remorse" and blamed the assault on alcohol and drugs.
