Tips on Staying Safe in Cold Weather

Posted: Updated:

2013 brings with it some cold temperatures and emergency responders say you should bundle up as you head outside.

The signs of winter are around us with snow and icicles.

Temperatures are expected to be below average and responders say if you venture out look out for frost bite.

Also, if you're out shoveling be sure to take breaks.

Normally, when temperatures dip this low, responders are busy.

"Amazingly, it's been pretty quiet over the last few days, Dan Manz, Essex Rescue Executive Director, said. "Sometimes it's a little unpredictable."

Another thing responders say is to watch chimneys. They say snow can block them which can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
