RUTLAND, Vt. -

A Rutland transient is facing various charges after police say she tried to cut an officer's throat Thursday night while being held at the police station.

Rutland City Police Department Sergeant Sly says Jennifer Berube, 39, who is a transient in the area, was being held at the station when she snuck up behind the officer.

Police say earlier Thursday evening Berube and another person, John Maclean, 36, also a transient, were trying to use a stolen credit/debit card at various businesses on North Main Street and Woodstock Ave. When they caught-up and questioned them Berube said she was using her sister's credit card. When police told them they were being cited they fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, police caught them.

The officer sustained a cut to his neck. He was treated, released and is back on duty Friday.

Berube is facing charges of second-degree attempted murder of a police officer, possession of stolen property, false reporting to a police officer and resisting arrest. Berube will be arraigned at Vermont Superior Court in Rutland Friday afternoon.

Maclean is also facing charges.
