ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. -
A fire causes massive damage to a downtown St. Johnsbury building. The building on fire is the Artistic Gardens building, a three story structure on Railroad Street downtown St. Johnsbury, with a store front on the first level and apartments on the top.
According to the American Red Cross, the fire has impacted at least eight units in the apartment building. They are currently helping those residents who were on scene.
A neighbor, who heard about the fire, says he acted quickly by running inside to try and get people out.
"I was using the fire extinguisher, which is about 2 ½ feet long and used it to bang on every door I found to get people out," said Randall Loiacono.
Reporter: "Was there anyone at home when you went up there?
"Not that I could tell, I was praying to god there wasn't anyone there but if they were they are still there," said Loiacono.
No further details have been released.
