LAKE DUNMORE, Vt. -
On Lake Dunmore in Addison County winds whipped boat lifts off the shore and trees down onto homes and power lines.
"We were up here when we had Irene and it wasn't this bad and sandy certainly wasn't this bad," Tom Wright said.
"We lost some shingles we lost a window but no trees down on our house we're really pretty lucky," Sandy Morris, who has a place on the lake, said.
People who have homes here say the devastation has never been this bad. Tree roots were uprooted and home owners had to use chain saws to cut their way in and out of driveways. Some could be without power up for five full days.
"They're saying that it could be until Christmas Eve or Christmas until we get power back," Wright said.
With cold weather on the way there's still planning ahead to keep pipes from freezing.
"If we keep a fire placing going and a gas stove that should do it," Wright said.
Green Mountain Power did most of its repair work in Addison, Rutland and Bennington counties. They said they restored power to 28,000 customers as of Saturday night but 3,700 more are still without it.
