MONTPELIER, Vt. -

(AP) - Vermont's top federal prosecutor says federal, state and local law enforcement officials have a plan to combat gun and drug crime in Washington County.

Over the last 18 months, federal law enforcement agencies have worked with the state police and local departments from the city and town of Barre and city of Montpelier to prosecute individuals involved with drug trafficking and the use of firearms in connection with drug dealing.

U.S. Attorney Tristram Coffin held a news conference to highlight the conclusion of cases against a number of people involved in the drug trade, including a Nov. 6, 2011 drug-related shooting on Baldwin Street in Montpelier.

A total of 14 people were convicted and police seized 26 firearms and ammunition, including a sawed-off shotgun and an assault rifle.
