Ban on Synthetic Drugs in Clinton County Appears to be Working

Posted: Updated:
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

It appears a recent law making it a crime to have synthetic drugs in Clinton County, New York is working.

Nearly three months ago county leaders put the new law in effect.

Friday, Sheriff David Favro says his department has seen a drastic decrease in synthetic drug cases.

These drugs include bath salts, K-2 and potpourri -type substances.

Although it's been down, Favro warns it doesn't mean the bath salt kick is over.

"We're optimistically cautious in law enforcement because we usually know as soon as you pass a new law or make things more difficult for people to obtain, the chemicals etc, they'll go underground and they'll find other means to do it in the dark if you will," said Favro.

Favro says police are continuing to monitor stores to make sure the illegal drugs stay off the shelves.
