COLCHESTER, Vt. -
In less than a month, FOX44 and ABC22's own Chelsea Ingram will grace the stage for the 86th annual Miss America pageant.
While you typically only see her on FOX44 weekends, her week days are just as busy.
She's prepping for the national stage at a pace we could barely keep up with.
"I still have a lot to do, including packing, something I haven't quite finished up yet," Chelsea Ingram, Miss Vermont, said.
That aside, Chelsea has been physically getting ready for months.
She works out for 2 hours, 5 days a week, sometimes more to beach body DVD workouts.
The workouts include some fancy footwork and boxer-like hand moves.
Chelsea says it's similar to dancing.
"My favorite part in preparing for Miss America is probably the opportunities that I've had to speak to civic organizations," Ingram said.
Not to mention school visits to talk about her platform, heart disease awareness. But some days, don't end there.
"I've done things like mock interviews with my committee, that's the Miss Vermont Scholarship Organization Executive Committee," Ingram said.
Miss Vermont has to prep for a private 10-minute interview with the judges, something the actual audience won't see.
Chelsea's talent is opera. She studied it at the collegiate level and has regular sessions with a vocal coach.
This is all to impress these judges, some popular ABC faces, including GMA's Sam Champion. Because Vermont has a lot of ground to make up for.
"Vermont has actually never had a Miss America, not only that, the state of Vermont has never made it into the top 15," Ingram said.
On Monday you'll be lucky enough to get the inside scoop on Chelsea's gown. In the weeks ahead ABC22 is your destination for everything Miss America.
Lauren Maloney will be traveling to Las Vegas, giving you behind the scenes reports from the pageant. That will air on ABC22 on January 12 at 9 p.m.
