Owl Survives Crashing Into Truck Grill

Posted: Updated:

Vermont wildlife workers say an owl is lucky to be alive after crashing into the grill of a moving vehicle.

They took a photo of the bird after it got stuck and again after they were able to free it.

A state biologist says last week a driver hit the animal on a back road in Addison and drove eight miles to work where he called wildlife officials.

A wise choice because they say doing it yourself could get you hurt.

"The biggest injury that you might have is number one that the talons are very sharp because they're birds of prey and that's what they use to capture their prey and once they get hold of you they don't want to let go," said Vermont biologist David Sausville.

After freeing the bird wildlife leaders say they released it back into the wild.

That's something they say usually doesn't happen because a crash like that would normally kill the animal.
