Vermont is one of 11 states that successfully pushed the EPA for better soot regulations.
The new standards for airborne soot were announced last week.
The amount of soot produced by smoke stacks, diesel trucks and buses will be reduced by 20 percent.
Environmental and business groups battled over whether the new standard will protect public health or cause job losses.
