VT Health and Safety Officials to Talk Fatalities

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermont public health and safety officials are going to be talking about a spike in traffic fatalities.

Statistics show that 74 people have died on Vermont's highways so far this year, up from 51 in 2011 and 60 in 2010.

Health Commissioner Dr. Harry Chen and Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn are going to discuss Tuesday the factors that they believe are contributing to the increase and what can be done to reduce them.

Dr. Ray Keller, the head of the trauma center at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, will talk about how those fatalities have affected the state's largest emergency department.

More than have of the people killed this year were not wearing seat belts.
