MADD: Goal to Have Every State Require Convicted Drunk Drivers to Have a Ignition Interlock Device

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

The Mother's Against Drunk Driving Organization is getting a boost in support.

The National Transportation Board recently approved recommendations calling for all convicted drivers to have an ignition interlock device on their vehicles.

The President of MADD says their goal is to have every single state implement this rule.

"Six years ago, when we started our campaign to eliminate drunk driving, there was only one state that had alcohol ignition interlocks required for all convicted drunk drivers," Jan Withers, President of MADD, said.

The organization reports data showing the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day is an extremely deadly period for drunk drivers.
