Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermont has signed a contract with a tech vendor to help implement Vermont's new health care exchange.

CGI will provide the computer and networking infrastructure starting in 2014.

Officials say the state will pay about $36 million for the first 2 years of work.

More than $50 million if the state continues to use it for the next 4 years.

Operational costs will total $4.5 million a year.

The exchange is being set up with the federal Affordable Care Act.

Vermont officials hope they will be able to use it later for the state's single payer health care system by 2017.
