PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
Some people in Plattsburgh had concerns about a drug store opening near an already busy intersection.
The intersection of Boynton Avenue and Oak Street is right outside the home of Chris McLear.
"From four to five PM you know traffic is stacked up here all the time," says McLear. "It's really hard to get out of our side driveway."
That's why McLear says he had had concerns about Kinney Drugs moving down Boynton and building a new store closer to the intersection.
"Kinney's is going to have some impact on an already problematic area," says McLear.
Plattsburgh Planning Board member Karen Ricketson says she is "not really" concerned the traffic could get worse. The planning board conditionally approved the project earlier this week.
Ricketson says Kinney has promised to create two driveways. She says that will help keep cars moving and she says more steps could be taken to help traffic.
"We're hoping working with the developer and the city engineer, working together that they're going to have enough room right here to put a left turning lane in," says Ricketson.
Ricketson says she hopes that is done in time for Kinney's October opening.
