People Eat Out in the Cold to Support COTS - Homeless Shelter

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Tables and chairs were set up outside on Church Street today.

And while all bundled up, diners ate in the cold.

It's a fundraiser for COTS, a local shelter for the homeless.

It gave the crowd a glimpse into the struggle.

A handful of restaurants provided the food, and supporters of the cause made  $20 donations.

"It's cold, it makes you stop and think about someone who is homeless that has to go through this day in and day out and... it makes your heart feel for them," Laurie Lawrence-Pepin said.

On top of losing the shelter to a July storm, COTS has seen an increase in the number of people needing their resources. COTS serves about two-thousand people every year.
