Officials Warning Vermonters Over Texting Scam at Community National Bank

Posted: Updated:
BARRE, Vt. -

Another text scam to warn you about, this one targeting customers of the Community National Bank.

Many Vermonters received a text saying their ATM card was deactivated urging them to call a number.

Community National Bank says you should delete this message because responding could end up giving scammers access to your bank account.

Luckily, no one's bank account has been accessed by this scam.

"This thing hit very local and very close to home for us but it's not an uncommon practice. And consumers are really urged to be aware that once that sensitive information has been released that's exactly what can happen and this sort of thing happens all over the country," Regan Howard, VP of Community National Bank, said.

Vermont State Police say luckily no one's bank account has been accessed by this scam.
