Vermont Charities' Fundraising Questioned

Posted: Updated:
COLCHESTER, Vt. -

Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell says he's concerned about charities that use outside groups to raise money.

In a new study, Sorrell says his office found that on average if a dollar was donated to a charity that relied on a paid fundraiser 75-cents went to the fundraiser and only 25-cents went to the charity.

"I think you know not only in this season but generally you want to be generous but know what you're supporting and how you're supporting the organization you want to support," says Sorrell.

We talked to many of the charities that were highlighted in the report.  They defended their fundraising and some disputed the attorney general's findings.
