MONTPELIER, Vt. -

The Green Mountain State reached a deal with Hewlett Packard to end the state's contract with the company for updating the DMV's computers.

This settlement calls for a refund to the state in the tun of $8.37 million.

Vermont must return the physical and virtual rights to all software and documents created by HP.

State officials say the Department of Motor Vehicles computer system still works after 35 years.
