BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Water bottles will become a thing of the past at UVM.

The campus will stop selling bottled water starting at the first of the year.

To mark their retirement the school will unveil a monument to waste.

It's made out of 3,000 empty water bottles.

It appears UVM is ahead of the curve. So far about 50 schools in the U.S. have full or partial bottled water bans.

Both UVM is the first public university in the country to completely stop selling them.
