Update: Fatal Crash in Highgate/Blood Sample Taken from Driver

Posted: Updated:
HIGHGATE, Vt. -

An update now on the deadly car crash we told you about last night in Highgate, Vermont.

23 year old Nicole Greene swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting and killing 35 year old Marissa Knight.

Police haven't said whether or not alcohol or drugs were a factor, but they did say, if someone's involved in a crash that causes serious injuries or death, and there's any evidence that alcohol or drugs were involved, a blood sample is taken.

In this fatal crash, a blood sample was taken, so there must have been some evidence.

The driver who appears to be at fault is in critical condition.

"We need to pay attention to controlling our speeds, not drinking and driving and wearing a seat belt, those three things are often the components of fatal car accidents," Lieutenant Tom Hango of the Vermont State Police St. Albans Barracks said.

So far this year, 74 people have been killed on Vermont roadways. More than 70 percent of them were not wearing their seat belts.

The driver killed in yesterday's crash, Marissa knight was not wearing hers.
