ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. -
The U.S. Attorney's Office for Vermont says the man who killed a couple from Essex Junction, Vermont has committed suicide.
For the first time publicly, prosecutors say Israel Keyes was linked to the death of Bill and Lorraine Currier in June 2011. They say Keyes had confessed to killing the Curriers and that investigators had found enough evidence to link him to the murders.
Prosecutors say Keyes confessed to the Vermont murders while in a jail in Alaska, where he was being held on charges related to the death of a Anchorage woman. That's where they say Keyes committed suicide Sunday.
Despite several searches in Essex and Coventry, Vermont, police say they were never able to find the bodies of the Curriers.
Prosecutors say Keyes also claimed he had killed other people throughout the country.
They have scheduled a press conference for Monday afternoon.
Keyes had never been charged in connection with the Currier case. Prosecutors say "Alaska authorities requested that Vermont authorities not publicly disclose information linking Keyes to the Curriers' murders in an effort to further the investigations of other murders."
They went to say "Vermont authorities agreed with this request as the public was not at risk due to Keyes' incarceration and in the interest of identifying the victims of unsolved murders."
Prosecutors say that as of now Keyes does not appear to be connected any other murders in Vermont.
