WALTHAM, Vt. -
Republican Vermont State Representative from Addison County (District 3), Gregory Clark, was killed in a Friday morning crash on Route 7 in Waltham, Vt.
It happened at around 7:30 a.m. Friday.
Police say Clark stopped to scrape ice off his windshield when they were hit and killed by a car.
A state reconstruction team has been called in.
Traffic is reduced to one lane. Motorists can expect delays until at least noon.
Police say they are unsure if charges will be filed, but it doesn't appear to be reckless driving.
Vermont House Speaker Shap Smith released this statement on Greg Clark's death:
"I am deeply saddened to learn of Representative Greg Clark's death. Greg's passion was working with young Vermonters to ensure that they had a better life. He brought that passion with him to the legislature and was an extremely effective advocate for young people. His humor and warmth were felt by all and his passing is a great loss for all of us. I extend my sincere condolences to Greg's family and friends."
John F. Campbell, President Pro-Tempore of the Vermont State Senate released this statement:
"It is with deep
sadness that we learn of the death of our friend and colleague Representative
Greg Clark. Greg had a stellar reputation of honesty, integrity, and
kindheartedness. His love of the State of Vermont was only secondary to the
love and devotion he had for his family. Greg and his legendary sense of humor
will be missed greatly. On behalf of my
colleagues in the Senate I offer my thoughts and prayers to Eileen and the
Clark family."
No further details are being released at this time.
