It's the season for giving and safety experts want to make sure the toys you're buying for kids are safe.
The government has already pulled many of these toys from stores or even stopped them from getting there. But parents should still be on the lookout to make sure one of these dangerous toys doesn't end up in a child's hands.
38 seemingly fun toys were recalled last year. The Consumer Protection Safety Commission says they were pulled for a good reason. Last year more than 193,000 children under 15 were hurt by toys and had to go to the ER. 13 died.
The main causes for death were suffocating and drowning while the majority of kids were hurt riding non motorized scooters.,
This year Customs and Border Protection stopped and seized more than two million toys before they could come into the United States. But there are still others that slip by.
So how do you as parents know what you're buying for your kids is safe? We talked with the CPSC about what you need to be thinking about before buying a gift or a young child.
"The most important thing is to buy a toy that is age appropriate for your child. If your child is two don't buy a toy that says three plus on it cause age grade is based on ability," CPSC Spokesperson Patty Cavis said.
But some dangerous toys could still be out there. Many are recalled only after going on sale.
