Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Confetti Had Confidential Information On Them

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

Many threats of identity theft come from phishing scams, hacked computers, or the occasional dumpster document dump. Not this one.

Everyone who attended the Thanksgiving Parade in New York had a chance to pick up some confidential information.

The confetti in the parade had social security numbers, phone numbers and addresses.

The confetti identified detectives, some apparently undercover with their social security numbers, dates of birth and other highly sensitive confidential information.

A closer look showed the documents were from the Nassau County Police Department.

"I'm just completely in shock that...well, how can people have this type of sensitive information, and why is it being shredded and being distributed at the Thanksgiving Day parade," Ethan Finkelstein, a parade attendee, said.

Nassau County Police say they're very concerned and are launching an investigation as well as reviewing how they dispose of sensitive documents.
