BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A big announcement for veterans in Vermont.

The Department of Veterans Affairs selected a contractor to build a new $2.5 million dollar facility.

The new outpatient facility will serve about 4,000 veterans.

It will also be moved from Colchester, Vt. to Burlington, Vt.

"Because of increased patient load, the VA facility in Colchester has outgrown its capabilities," Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said. "It needs more space now and we're going to be able to provide that space at a new facility in Burlington."

A spokesperson for Veterans Affairs says this new facility will help ensure Vermont veterans continue to have world class care they've earned through their service to the country.

Throughout the state, the VA serves more than 8,500 veterans.

The clinics provide primary care, specialty treatment and mental health services.
