Black Friday Sales Down Nationally/Up Locally

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Thanksgiving shopping took a noticeable bite out of Black Friday's start to the holiday season.

Because hundreds of thousands of shoppers could start hitting sales while still full of Thanksgiving dinner, national retail sales fell slightly from last year.

But locally, sales for some were better than ever.

"The mall opened at midnight, we didn't open till seven, we were still up 105 percent over last year," Scott Richardson, Owner of After Midnight Jewelers said.

Its estimated consumers spent eleven point two billion at stores across the U.S. this year on Black Friday.
