FDA Approves First Seasonal Flu Vaccine Made Without Chicken Eggs

WASHINGTON -

The FDA has given the okay to the first seasonal flu vaccine made without chicken eggs.

This could be a big help for people who are allergic to eggs.

Flucel-Vax is made using cultured animal cells, which is also faster than using eggs.

The Health and Human Service Secretary says it's just as safe and effective as the traditional flu shot.

However, the FDA only approved it for adults 18 and older.

The same vaccine has been used in Europe for about 5 years.
