BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Despite Vermont's unemployment rate inching up last month, the governor says the state is doing better than the rest of the country.
On Tuesday, Governor Peter Shumlin checked out a job training program at the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.
The State Labor Department reported unemployment in Vermont ticked up one-tenth of one-percent, to 5.5%.
"In terms of our employment numbers, we know they move up and down. We're still 2-points below the national average so Vermont is doing better than most of the other states in America," says Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont.
The governor says he's concerned about Vermont's and the country's economy if congress fails to avoid the so called "fiscal cliff."
