Funding Available to Make Queen City Homes Lead Free

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

It's estimated more than 10,000 homes in Burlington are still contaminated with lead.

But now, the city has the money to make at least 100 homes and apartments safe in Burlington and Winooski.

If you meet a certain income requirement, your walls and windows can be replaced.  As you know, lead based paint is the most dangerous for children.

"Lead paint remains, even in the year 2012 a threat to public safety, public health," Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger said.

The funding is only guaranted through 2014.  It will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so the Mayor says to apply right away.  To do that, call 865-LEAD.
