Two full days before Thanksgiving and the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf still needs turkeys.
By early afternoon Monday, volunteers were still down 500 or so birds.
Thanks to 35 food drives in the area, no one should be without.
Champlain Elementary 5th graders recently collected 4,300 pounds of food.
"No child under our organization or that we know, will go hungry, no child, no senior, no family," Bob Maritano, Food Drive Coordinator, said.
Maritano blames the down year on the election.
He says studies show people's mindset isn't on helping others right now for Thanksgiving.
Election years prove to be better for Christmas giving.
