BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Would you like to lose 26 pounds in 3 weeks?
Well the latest diet comes from Reader's Digest and it says you can!
The Digest Diet doesn't eliminate any food groups and even wine and chocolate stay on the menu!
Seems like Americans are always trying to lose weight.
There's the low carb, the no carb, the liquids... The list goes on, but now there's one that says you can have wine and chocolate and still shed the pounds.
And now, the Digest Diet...
"We enjoy good foods and aren't interested in eliminating any categories of them," Digest Diet said.
Let me break the 3 phases down for you. Days 1-4 shakes, soups, snacks and water, that's it! Days 5-14 lean and green, make Mediterranean style choices.
"A lot of whole grains, nuts, olives and olive oil," Cathy McIsaac, Clinical Nutrition Manager at Fletcher Allen, said.
And the last push days 15-21, you can incorporate pizza, pasta and bread while still enjoying a glass of wine. There! You've lost 26 pounds. Okay, maybe not, but it's all about eating a balanced diet and fat releasing foods. You heard me right, fat releasing foods!
"Whether or not these foods have magical properties... That's what I'm pretty skeptical about," McIsaac said.
But according to the book, foods filled with vitamin C, calcium, protein and fiber do the work for you. Coca, honey and wine also made the list.
McIsaac said, "the diet does also recommend if you don't want to drink that you can also get it in eating red grapes."
Other weight loss secrets, get into bed early! Eliminate stress and one more component, laugh.
The rest of the book is filled with recipes and fat releasing workouts.
The Digest Diet, as well as our Fletcher Allen dietician recommends keeping a planner that details what you eat each day and how often you work out.
You may find you're snacking when you don't even know it!
