DANVILLE, Vt. -

(AP) - A major reconstruction of U.S. Route 2 through the Vermont town of Danville is headed into its long winter nap.

It had been hoped the major excavation on the $6.6 million project would be completed this season, but heavy construction for about a third of the project, in downtown Danville near the village green, is still outstanding and must be completed in the spring.

Town Administrator Mert Leonard tells the Caledonian Record he doesn't know how long the heavy construction will take.

The four-year project includes replacing underground infrastructure and rebuilding the roadway from the Danville school east to Marty's Quickstop. The project is to bring amenities like a new bandstand and art installations, along with landscaping and other features.
