Burlington Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign Starts

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Get your change ready, Salvation Army red kettles are out in Chittenden County.

Volunteers will be ringing those bells from now until Christmas Eve.

This year the Salvation Army has set a goal of $95,000.  That's the same as last year.  But last year, they missed it by $30,000.

This year the group hopes that changes because they say the need for help is growing.

"The need is almost, I was about to say ridiculous, off the top of my tongue. We see so many new people. It's not just necessarily more people so many new people," says Capt. William Thompson, Burlington Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army also needs volunteers to staff the kettle campaign.  To volunteer call (802) 864-6991, ext. 103.

The kettles will be out from 10:00am to 9:00pm most days.

Kettle locations:

Burlington: Church Street outside the Town Center Mall

South Burlington: Price Chopper, K-Mart

Williston: Christmas Tree Shops

Essex:  Price Chopper
