MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Officials will meet Friday to discuss the future of Vermont's mental healthcare system.
The old Vermont State Hospital was closed last year after it was flooded from Tropical Storm Irene.
The state has come up with a new plan which includes smaller psychiatric units spread across the state and a new 25 bed facility in Berlin.
State officials are in the permitting process for the proposed Berlin facility. The Department of Financial Regulation will look at the proposal and decide whether to assign a permit. Friday's public hearing on the application will take place at 1:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor conference room at 89 Main St. in Montpelier.
