VT Town Votes to Keep ATVs on Some Roads

Posted: Updated:
BARNET, Vt. -

A Vermont town has voted to keep letting ATVs use some of its roads.

Residents in Barnet voted 215-129 on Wednesday to defeat a proposed ban on the ATVs.

The vote came about because of a petition circulated by Eric Brinkerhoff, who lives on one of the roads that ATVs now use. He said he's been seeing more and more of them and doesn't like the noise and dust. He said he worries about collisions with cars and trucks. Vt.

The Caledonian-Record reports turnout for the special vote far exceeded the annual town meeting numbers.  There are about 1,300 registered voters in Barnet.
