Green Mountain College will not be using the meat of Lou for food.
The college had planned to process the animal and use the meat at the college dining hall facility.
Because the animal was getting medication for an injury, the college says the meat was not fit for human consumption.
The 11-year-old ox, named Lou and another ox were retired this summer from the college's farm.
The college also planned on euthanizing both but has decided to keep the other named Bill on the school farm.
