WAITSFIEILD, Vt. -

(AP) - Volunteers in an area of Vermont hit hard by Tropical Storm Irene are pitching in to help people affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Mad River Long Term Recovery Chairman Asah Rowles says volunteers will be collecting coats, hats, gloves, hoodies and blankets outside the Shaw's supermarket in Waitsfield on Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m.

She says those cold-weather items are the only ones the group will be able to accept.

All the items will be trucked, courtesy of Land Air Express of New England, to Staten Island, N.Y., which was pummeled by Sandy less than two weeks ago.
