MONTPELIER, Vt. -
The first medical marijuana dispensaries in Vermont are closer to opening their doors.
Friday the Department of Public Safety announced two groups have been conditionally approved and certificates could be awarded soon.
One would open in Montpelier, the other in Burlington.
Montpelier city leaders say last week Patients First Incorporated applied for a permit for a River Street property and were approved.
"We have considered this comparable to a pharmacy. It has controlled substances, there are certain required security measures," said Montpelier City Manager Bill Fraser.
Montpelier leaders say so far no one has complained about the dispensary coming to the city.
But people have until next week to do so.
If those two groups are approved, that means only two more can set-up shop in the future.
