Winooski Baker Among America's Best

WINOOSKI, Vt. -

Cupp's Café owner Gretel-Ann Fischer is going to take her small town bakery to the bright lights. On November 26th 9 P.M. she will be one of the cooks appearing on the TLC show "The Next Great Baker." And it was them who sought her out.

"I called my husband and said what do you think and he was like 'what why not?'"

So the process began. After an essay, video and live audition, Fischer made the cut for the reality show. But her passion for cake decorating started after she visited her Aunt's bakery when she was seven years old.

"It was totally an 80-styles cake with the ladders going up the cake and the waterfall and I was like oh my god. I thought that was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and I knew from that moment I had to do it," Fischer said.

Two years ago that dream materialized into Cupp's Cafe in Winooski. Then a spot on reality TV. Fischer still thinks she needs a pinch to wake up.

"I get to play with butterscotch and sugar how can that be bad? I get to play with cookies every day," Fischer said.

And Fischer is hoping that by appearing on the show more people will take a look at Cupp's since any new restaurant can always use some more business.

"Yeah it's always a daily struggle but we're still fighting the fight we haven't given up we're not giving up and we will never give up," Fischer said.
