Two Men Try to Take 1,000 Pound Safe From Essex, VT Jewelry Store

ESSEX, Vt. -

Police are looking for two men, they say, broke into New World Coin and Jewelry in Essex, Vt. early Wednesday morning.

The owner says at about 1:30 a.m., the men broke into his store and attempted to make off with a 1,000 pound safe.

Then, they tried to wheel the half ton safe out the front door.

This woke neighbors who came outside to see what was going on.

"They jumped in the car, hit the safe twice, almost hit the building, and then left and turned right, with their lights off," Kaitlyn Guenther, witness, said.

The store owner says this is not the first time he's been burglarized.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Essex Police Department at (802)-878-8331.
