BRADFORD, Vt. -
A longtime coach at Oxbow Union High School was arrested and charged Wednesday with repeated aggravated sexual assault on a child.
Brian Musty, 43, of Topsham, pleaded not guilty to the charge Wednesday morning at Vermont Superior Court in Chelsea. He was released on a number of conditions.
Musty has coached various sports at Oxbow, including girls basketball, lacrosse and soccer. He was also the P.E. teacher.
"He was a person who had a position of authority and a huge position of trust in the community," says Lt. Tracy Simon, Orange County Special Investigations Unit.
Simon says Musty broke that trust 15-years-ago. That's because Simon says for years Musty sexually assaulted a student starting when she was 15-years old.
"This wasn't just once or twice right?" asked FOX44/ABC22.
"No this was repeated," says Simon.
Simon says the victim just came forward now which can be common in these cases.
In court documents, police say the victim recently called Musty who told her, "I've always cared for you and always will," but the 43-year-old said if word of what happened got out, "that's gonna ruin me...obviously...will be the end of my job."
Police say as of now they don't know of any other victims but anyone with information is asked to call police.
"Generally someone who orchestrates the type of crime that this is doesn't just stop at one victim," says Simon.
Now police say Musty could face more charges including federal because he took the girl to New Hampshire and sexually assaulted her there.
Musty has pleaded not guilty.
School leaders did not return our repeated requests for comment but they told the "Journal Opinion" Musty was on paid leave.
