Vt. Democrats Prepare for Election Night

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Vermont Democrats are optimistic they will do well this election night.

It was two-years-ago Governor Peter Shumlin celebrated winning the governor's race.
On Tuesday, we caught up with him as he visited polls around the state to hopefully help seal a second term.

"I think a lot of Vermonters are going to agree, we're glad this day is here. But it's really exciting. Campaigns give you a real opportunity to go out and listen to Vermonters. I get ideas from them and I'm really hoping to have the privilege to continue to serve as governor, creating jobs, and moving our economy forward," says Shumlin.

The governor seemed pretty upbeat as he started a busy election day.  We caught up with him in St. Albans.  From there, it was off to Colchester, Essex, Burlington, Barre, and Waterbury.

A busy day and he spent a lot of it was with State Treasurer Beth Pearce.  She has faced a tough competition to keep her job.  Pearce says she is very optimistic for things to go her way because she says voters like her message.

"In the end, I think voters appreciate the issues. We've run an issues-oriented campaign. A grassroots organization. Robo calls are not the same as one-on-one talking with Vermonters and I think voters will respond to that as well," says Pearce.

Democratic faithful and politicians will watch the results at the Hilton in Burlington.  FOX 44 will have LIVE coverage from 10 to 11pm from the event.  ABC 22 will have LIVE coverage from 11 to 11:30pm.
