ASCUTNEY, Vt. -
One Vermont middle schooler is turning her experience with bullying into a movement to help other kids.
In a recording studio in Ascutney Friday, 12-year-old Charleigh Gere sang about an issue she knows well: bullying.
"In sixth grade, I was physically and cyber-bullied and I realized all my friends were there for me and they inspired me to write a song about bullying," says Charleigh.
After lots of work with family members, the result was the song "Stand."
"I'm extremely proud of Charleigh and her, her heart," says Heather Gere, Charleigh's mom. "The truth of the matter is that bullying is always going to be there and it's that one idea that we can't stop the bullying but if we can ensure that person that's being victimized doesn't feel alone that we could make a big difference."
Now after a year of working on the song, Charleigh needs help to finish the project. She's asking people to show themselves taking a stand, which will be included in the song's music video. Charleigh hopes the final video will be shared online and in schools.
You have until December 1st to upload a video to be part of the project.
